A Novel Idea

There's something to be said about the DIY attitude of artists that go the extra mile to put out something that's really fresh and at times better than the big budget projects with major push.

Today I finally received in the mail a copy of Jay Potts graphic novel, World of Hurt "The Thrill Seekers" which a raw and gritty black & white blaxploitation era comic. This book has all of the key ingredients to possibly be made into volumes, it's Afros, and Kung Fu, women and guns, sex and violence plus a great storyline!

After landing at Zurich Airport I like to take the hour train ride to Thun City so that I can regroup and get my mind right.

Well it looks like I've survived another year of staying young, traveling the globe, eating burgers from around the world, rocking parties coast to coast and internationally so in a nut shell I have nothing to complain about and everything to be thankful for. It's been a year of many acconplisments musically and artistically, we've taken Hot Peas and Butta on European tour and even Japan, we successfully pulled off a great weekend at New York Comic Con with our Artists Collective Booth and even stepped the game up by introducing new works from funk band Big Pimp Jones and their Japanese monster / Godzilla style soundtrack and comic book. We celebrated our 3 year anniversary with guest DJ's Chairman Mao (Bump Shop / Ego Trip) and Monk One (Wax Poetics) in 3D which to my knowledge has never been done before.

For 2012 it will be business as usual with many more dates and parties to rock, we'll be taking Hot Peas and Butta into other artistic areas with the debut of the Hot Peas And Butta comic book, our Sound of Film series will continue and we'll strive to continuously show you why Hot Peas And Butta is NOT just a 45 party but something much more unique. Look out for us as we make a return to the gallery scene as we did this past summer in the Netherlands. We love what we do and because of outside influences the creative juices will continue to flow so stay tuned!

This year I'm closing out my 2011 6 hours ahead of my east coast fam by doing a party in the mountains of Thun Switzerland with family and friends. This is a great way of ending the year and a beautiful way to start my adventures of 2012.

Had a great night this past week in New York City while DJing the Official Book Release Party for the homie J-Zone. A great crowd in attendance on a Tuesday night with a who's who of DJ's, Producers and MC's and party people. Woke up this morning feeling really motivated with a new outlook on many things and focused on 2012 and beyond. I've been trying to plan a new mixtape for a while now and if you've been checking out the Official DJ Skeme Richards Fan Page on Facebook then you'll know I asked people to post pics of them with their boomboxes.

So today I finally got up to head out to the Armands which is one of the last remaining classic records in Philly. When I say record stores I don't mean digging spots, I mean how it used to be where you could buy records, needles, speaker cabinets, woofers and tweeters to build your own speakers, lighting and more. This spot has been in existence way before the days of Sam Ash and Guitar center!

So now the project begins, I finally grabbed about 20 blank cassette tapes which I'll be using for the mixtape giveaway. Stay tuned!

Fantastic Florida Funk

This past weekend I had the pleasure of introducing one of in my opinion best new Funk bands on the scene, Florida’s own Fusik at their show in Orlando which was a great honor for me. Fusik has recently released their first 45, On The Fly b/w Battlefield which are both sure shot uptempo burners with of course a nice break in between for all you DJ’s.

Be sure to cop their new release which is limited to 500 copies but the way I saw them being sold at the show you’ll be lucky if there are 100 left!

The use of black & white shading is really being used heavily in posters these days which is obvious by these two, but that's something minor you pick up on when your into the visual aspect of posters.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Dark Knight Rises film, this series hasn't let me down yet so this next one should end it all perfectly. I'm not too sure on the Spiderman flick though, I can only co-sign the first one and maybe the second but anything after that was a thumbs down with the no way. Either way, comic book movies are still raking in the dough big time.

Way of The Warrior

The tough thing about collecting especially when it's a series of something is waiting for or finding the missing pieces. I've been really getting my comic book reading on heavy these days and have been coming across some really good materiel, the first being this limited series called "Samurai's Blood". After six months of waiting for the final issue to drop I've finally completed the storyline, and ready to read.

If your into swordplay and violence then this one is for you, highly recommended!

This Goes Out To May Favorites "He's Incredible"

Last week I started a new entry entitled "This goes out to my favorites" so this week I continue with that theme to bring you another entry from the Sleeping Bag / Fresh Records family with T La Rocks "He's Incredible". Now when you think of T La Rock the first choice for many is "It's Yours" which is a great song but I really love this seldom talked about 12" especially the X side of "Breakdown". T La Rock always comes nice with the lyrics and here is no except. I always loved this cover as well, simple and plain with T sporting all black, white gloves, name belt and 2 simple gold ropes looking like he's conducting the orchestra. Simple but effective!

A Groovin' Boxset

First and foremost I have to give a shout out and congrats to my Butta Brother Supreme La Rock and Light In The Attic for releasing The Wheedle's Groove 7" Boxset and making sure that I was one of the first to receive it. It's always good to see my fam making moves and bringing freshness to the game for others to enjoy.

The Wheedle's Groove boxset consists of 10 really rare Seattle funk & soul 7" released between 1965 & 1979, in addition you also receive a 90 page full color book which breaks down the history of the artists involved in the project. To top it off you also receive a cd with unreleased sessions and a limited edition Seattle Supersonics trading card. Being a limited edition boxset makes it even more of a necessary item to get your hands on!

This Goes Out To My Favorites

I was sitting back today going through some 80's Hip Hop 12" just at the same time Brand Nubian's "Dedication" just happened to be playing and I realized that there were some really great covers during that time which in some cases was the reason for me buying the album. Looking forward to the now, album covers are works of photoshop and cliche pics of the artist which are usually boring so I decided to do a few posts in the upcoming weeks dedicated to some of the freshest album covers of that time.

I'll start out with these two classic Sleeping Bag Recordings and Mantronix produced works which I really love (if anybody knows if there was ever offical promo posters put out for these to covers let me know, I need that!). Both of these covers done by graffiti artists Gemini and Gnome capture a time when everyone was fresh, even on your worst day you needed to be on point.

Mantronix "Needle To The Groove". Mantronix was a beast on the SP12 before anyone else had even touched one, he was the guy but that's another topic. This cover is of a classic club party with Mantronix on the wheels and "Crime Master T" aka MC Tee on the Mic. If you notice everyone is freshly dipped in sweatsuits, Cazals, Kangols, gold earrings and fresh kicks. I love how they drew the classic Otari reel to reel as it captures the live recording.

Next up is the classic Just-Ice "Back To The Old School" cover. This cover is a typical summer afternoon and as you can tell Fila was the brand of choice with the exception of Mantronix rocking New Balance. One thing that I really like about this cover is how they changed the classic Benetton rugby to spell Latoya instead. People today don't understand the importance and impact brands like Benetton, Coca Cola and Mikey Mouse Co. played within Hip Hop fashion. Also peep Mantronix carrying his Roland 909, that's how we did it when it was time to do a live show.

Puttin' Up High Scores

Even though I own a few arcade and pinball machines I miss the days of dark and loud 80's arcades, slapping a quarter down on a machine to symbolize that you've got next and just the overall surroundings of people enjoying the atmosphere. Yesterday I spent the afternoon and evening hanging out at Barcade with my homie New Hampshire Dan who happens to be one of my few friends that aren't in the music industry (but has great taste in music). It's not often that I get to kick it with Dan and since we're the same age we have the same memories of growing up and enjoy the same things, two being fine beers and 80's Arcade games so this was a perfect outing.

So we hung out at Barcade which is a new spot in Philly that is a Bar & Arcade listening to loud 80's rock, drinking beers and setting high scores.

Is It What It Once Was or Is It Still?

Just caught wind of a great interview in The Guardian called "The Rise and Fall of Skateboard Chic" and it reminds of the same questions that I have about so called "Hip Hop" that came from nothing and became a major something with all types of sponsors throwing money it's way and how people that aren't from this element become rappers, DJ's etc. because it's the cool thing.

Here's an excerpt from a portion with Hufnagel of the Huf Brand.

With so much money in the sport, both Hufnagel and Oblow have seen a change in the kind of kids who are interested in skateboarding. "Skating in the beginning was so poor, it had nothing. It nearly died out. Then all of a sudden it came back and the guys were buying nice watches, then the next generation see that and think, 'I want to become a skateboarder so I can drive a Mercedes.' Now you're seeing parents involved and the whole soccer-mom thing. All of sudden these parents were saying, 'I want my kid to skateboard because he can make money.' It's horrible," Oblow says.

Hufnagel has worries about the future. "My concern is: are they [Nike and Adidas] always going to be there? What happens in a couple of years when skateboarding isn't cool any more and they just drop their programme? They've been in before, dropped it and then come back. Are they going to do it again? Those are the concerns."

Hufnagel remembers the days when skating wasn't so cool: "I grew up in New York and it was unacceptable to have a skateboard. I'd have to take the train up to Canarsie in Brooklyn and I'd put my board under the C train because we'd go through these areas where kids would steal your board and punk you out. In 1992, there were some brands but it was nothing like it is today."

Butta Since Day One

I was going through some boxes that we had stored away and pulled out this gem of mine that I wore in the 70's probably around the age of 5 and proves that I've been Butta since day one and had mad style. Since I don't have any kids I might have to pass this along to my Butta Bro Supreme La Rock for his Butta Son!

In The Bins

Reading and collecting comics is a tradition that I've had since a kid and even though I've stopped and started over the years I still find myself being pulled in for interesting new titles. With all of the going through records, making phone calls, sending emails and handling business it's not often that I get a free moment to sit and read but while on a plane or relaxing at the hotel in another country or before and after gigs I try to play catch up and zone out for an hour or so.

There's been a nice amount of titles being released lately that aren't the typical "superhero" types but more period pieces that I've been diggin up lately. Here's a few that you should definitely check out when your searching the bins.

Dark Shadows was a classic Vampire TV series that ran from 1966 to 1971 with a total of 1,225 episodes. For all the beat diggers out there your probably only familiar with this title because DJ Premier sampled from the Dark Shadows soundtrack.

I've always been a fan of the Spaghetti Western and World War II film genres so Helldorado and Operation Broken Wings both were no brainers to check out.

Flash Gordon was a title that I just picked up today, the first thing that attracted this issue to me was the cover art, I've always loved fantasy art so I had to scoop it for that alone. But after reading it, this will most definitely be on my monthly list to pick up.

The 5th and final issue to the Red Skull limited series finally dropped today, I've been waiting 5 months to read the storyline in one shot. As usual the cover art was what attracted me to this series, it was something about the propaganda style posters that they used which I hope will set the tone for this story.

The Box of World Travels

If it's one thing that I really like is design and packaging on items, and a boxset done right can really be a make or break for me. I'm not a designer but Hot Peas and Butta visual artist The Elroy Jenkins is and I've picked up alot of his attention to detail when it comes to designing. It's not always about being functional for me, but sometimes it's about the interests and just being cool in its own way.

I guess this example is the equivalent of people buying refrigerator magnets.

Before the days of ‘Your name on a grain of rice” and ‘I heart…’ t-shirts, travellers collected souvenir labels. Attached to your oversized hard luggage, everyone knew where you’d spent your summers, meaning you didn’t even have to brag about it to your fellow passengers. Louis Vuitton’s nephew Gaston-Louis collected over 3,000 of them before his death in 1970. The company has recreated some prize examples for this boxset of 30 postcards, see more at LV.

All It Takes Is One Sheet

As a collector of many things like toys, records, comic books and everything nostalgic I spread my money across the board to indulge in buying the things that keep me young. While most fellow DJ's spend tons of money on records off the wall (which I also do) I still believe that art is always the better investment. Of course bragging to fellow diggers about a record you just scored which eventually makes it's way hidden in a dusty crate is great but having a piece of art framed, positioned and displayed on your wall reminds you of what you spent your hard earned dollar on. My comic book collection is just as deep as my crates but seeing this makes me want to pour my money in extra heavy to retire on it later.

Original comic art from key 1980s-era comics has been hot for several years. It’s considered an important, peak era for comics (think Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, etc) and the people who grew up reading comics during that time are entering their prime earning years. It is no longer uncommon for even panel pages from the most important material of this era to push into the 5-figure range — or beyond. Bleeding Cool told you just last year about a Dave Gibbons Watchmen page 1 going for $33,460, and the stunning world-record result of $448,125 for a Frank Miller splash page from Dark Knight Returns followed a few months later.

And while art from the classic early-1980s X-Men run has long demanded strong prices as well, today’s result has surprised even seasoned observers: A single page from Uncanny X-Men #137, the classic Death of Phoenix issue by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Terry Austin has just hammered for $65,725 at Heritage Auctions.

A Dying Art - The Swordsmith

I recently had a conversation with someone about dying crafts and the people who carried them out, such as Watchmakers, Shoe repairers and even Suitmakers but I never thought about the Swordsmith. In this day and age I'm sure most are made by machine but there's nothing like getting it made by a human to give you that flawless yet flawed feel. I wish the youth would learn from these guys and carry on tradition.

One of Japan's last remaining swordsmiths, Korehira Watanabe has honed his craft for 40 years while attempting to recreate the mythical Koto sword.

Before heading to the Lido Club in Lausanne to do Hot Peas and Butta the owner of the club heard that I was a burger connoisseur and wanted to take me out to sample the cities best. After five minute walk from the club we arrived at a small and pretty packed pub full of beer drinkers and burger lovers. After returning to the club to eat I was pleasantly surprised, this was one damn tasty burger! The quality of beef was incredible and flavorful with very little seasoning needed and the bun was amazing. Definitely worth a return visit!

I gotta give it to Smash Burger for being a chain but still serving up a quality burger. The only thing that I didn't like was the mustard was a little overpowering on the taste of beef which I prefer to taste, but all and all a great choice to start my travels.

DOOMSTRAVAGANZA (a proclaimed annual event) took place this year on Wednesday, October 40th (November 9th) with Deejay Ambush at the helm and R&B group L&S debuting their mixtape DOOM for Dummies which featured the duo's vocals set to well known MF DOOM soundscapes.

One of the things that I love about traveling is returning home to see what the postman has delivered in my absence. Usually there are boxes stacked by the door of records, toys, bills, magazines and other goodies, just like Christmas. When I arrived home from Switzerland there was one particular package that stood out the most which of course was the one sitting on top. After opening to my surprise was a copy of the limited edition Slice of Spice x Lord Finesse Flexi Disc!!

Coffee Table Status Hammer Horror

When it comes to great horror films Britain's Hammer Studios made the best films money could buy, had the most sinister evil beings and prettiest woman in the genre. But the one thing that really captures Hammer Horror films was it's beautiful posters to promote the movies. Since it's Halloween time I figured that I would do a special coffee table status on the Art of Hammer book. This is not extremely hard to get but is getting harder to find due to the fact that it's out of print and usually goes for around the $100 mark. This hardback book showcases beautiful art of the posters from multiple countries giving you in depth background info, similarities, and differences which is especially valuable information for collectors.

Highly recommended!

New York Comic Con maybe over but we're not done! If you missed out on making it this year or didn't make it to the Hot Peas and Butta booth for the exclusives here's what you missed, but fear not because we've got some goodies coming your way!

NYCC 2011 marked the unveiling of our latest project with Record Breakin’ Music and Big Pimp Jones, Kododa. A unique venture, in which the story is first told strictly though soundtrack, and as it progresses, moves into a visual medium. Inspired by Japanese Kaiju cinema, and the deep, monstrous scores composed by Akira Ifukube, along with the bands own style of heavy, funk drums, Kodoja lends itself to being a listening experience unlike any other. Come 2012, the project will be accompanied by a 5 part comic book mini-series, with variant covers by members of the Hot Peas & Butta Artist Collective, and interior pages by Rory Smith.

In addition to revealing the Kodoja monster, NYCC marked the release of Project: Kyojo, the prequel to Kodoja. Project: Kyojo’s music fuses elements of 70s funk, classical, chiptune and 80s soul, spread on a thick layer of hard drum breaks, setting the tone for the story. If you were able to get your hands on one at the con, you are a lucky individual.

Lee On My Leg, Adidas On My Feet.....

There's one sneaker that's been a constant in Hip Hop culture an that is the Superstar, Shelltoe or Shell top as we call it in Philly Adidas made famous by Run DMC. My first pair of these actually came before the world caught wind of Run DMC and were given to me by my cousin after he got tired of them but still were clean and fresh enough for me to rock, those still being my favorite colorway of today, money green.

To commemorate 25 years since Run DMC released their hit "My adidas", the company will be releasing a limited edition of the iconic Superstar 80s shoe. Now being a collector of many things you know I have to jump on these when they drop, not for sporting around the streets purposes but just to add to the collection of history.

*The thing I really like about these kicks art the actually used the original thin tongue, not the current puffy one they use now which I completely hate!

I have to say that my circle of Hot Peas and Butta fam are the illest around. Whenever we bounce out of town to visit each other or even if you just spot something along the way we always come bearing gifts. Weather it be a rare 45 from my Butta Bros Supreme La Rock, Art from The Elroy Jenkins, exclusive Japanese items from Big Chan or vintage 70's blaxploitation era goodness from my man Blax you just never know what you'll receive.

I haven't seen Elroy in a little over a month so homie missed my birthday which I've been celebrating the entire month of October just those those late gifts can keep rolling in. So Friday the homie came through with gift in hand and as always it was something amazing. When it comes to comic art hands down my favorite two artists are John Byrne and Neil Adams so when Elroy bless me with this limited edition book of Neil Adams art (Signed by Neil himself)I was blown away. You don't have to be deep into comic art to appreciate this book, Bruce Lee fans and also Blaxploitation fans will recognize Neil's art at first sight, even if you didn't know who he was previously.

Last Friday night before a rare DJ appearance in Philly I went out to dinner with a few friends to try this new restaurant called Varga. Whats special about this place is the beer selection, they boast and insane lineup of beers which they need a separate menu for that alone. Opting for my favorite brand Allagash, they had one in stock which I've never had before which was simply called Allagash Four which lived up to the brand that I trust.

For starters I went with the mini Kobe burgers which came with a side of onion rings and a beer mustard for dipping. The mini burgers alone made me want to order that as my main meal.

For my main course I went with the baby back ribs, bacon sprouts with a side of slaw. Great night of food indeed, if your ever close by definitely stop in to sample the menu.

This past weekend in London was crazy with back to back parties from the minute I landed. First, an early evening gathering at the New Era Store party with my mellow Crazy Legs of Rock Steady Crew, then the homie Cros1 and I jumped into a taxi across town so that I could spin at East Village for the relaunch of the Doctors Orders party On The Reel with DJ's Spindoctor, Mr. Thing, Chris P and the homie Prankster. I went in heavy on London's ass and beat the mess out of the tables, speakers and the amazing packed house of people. Sunday was all about the Champs afterparty at Plan B, another Doctors Orders Colabo with DJ's Crazy Legs, Cros1, Spin Doctor, Hooch and myself. Thank you for a great time London, see you again soon!

So two weeks ago Hot Peas and Butta had a gallery exhibit in the town of Heerlen, the Netherlands as part of the IBE Hip Hop festival. The idea was to provide images from our personal collection of memorabilia that has inspired and influenced not only HP&B but also Hip Hop culture as a whole. One of the great things about traveling to events is meeting people that you've known about for years but never formally met. While in Heerlen I had the pleasure of meeting the two Patricks also known as Patrick Vogt and Disco Patrick. These are the guys responsible for putting out the hard to get book Disco Patrick Presents: The Guide to Disco Acetates, Funk, Rap and Disco Medleys. Finally getting around to posting a few updates from IBE in Heerlen Netherlands 2 weeks ago. Had alot of fun and minimal sleep but I live to experience this event every year.

Earlier this year DJ Light from Japan and myself did a photo shoot for the homie Maupzrock while we were traveling to Rotterdam. Maupzrock had a photo exhibit at IBE so we got to see alot of his works in full.

What festival would be complete with parties? Had a great time spinning with Cut Nice and as always the homie DJ Hooch from the UK!

Running The Streets of The Windy City

Had a great day in Chicago with my HP&B fams, Supreme La Rock and King Otto. Preme and Otto arrived a day earlier than I did and had already done some major diggin so when I arrived on Friday morning I need to get my fix in. So we spent the day hitting various shops, eating at the worlds famous Harold's and stuck in traffic.

First on the agenda was to hit Mr. Peabody Records where we all came up on some nice pieces at great prices, 45's, Disco 12"s, and old school Hip Hop joints. Can't complain about a thing. While there we of course had to sign the legendary wall fame and snap a few pics with the owner. Besides having a nice selection of records any place that has framed classic posters, lobbies and press photos is alright with me.

From there it was off to a famous Chicago institution, Harold's Fried Chicken. Chicago is known for three things, deep dish pizza, hot dogs and Harold's so being that it was only a few doors down guess what we chose?

After eating we drove a few blocks to a spot which I can't remember the name but they had a ton of records which turned into multiple copies of records you didn't want. Not a win situation.

After about an hour of driving, being stuck in traffic and finding the new location we arrived at Fire Sound Records only to find that the store is not fully open and they are still moving in inventory. No worries though, the owner let us go through crazy boxes of stuff and we all came up on alot of stuff. This was probably the best stop of the day for finding records.

I won't make this a long and drawn out burger post because this doesn't rank in my top 50. Long story short, it was 7:30am at Chicago O'hare Airport and I was on my way home from rocking at Hot Peas and Butta party and I hadn't eaten since 1pm the previous day. So I arrive at the airport and there it was staring at me, Johnny Rockets, I hadn't had a burger from there in a long while and no I remember why. It's just not that good.

Just like everything else that was the norm before and became overly done and included in this "now cool" world of everyone being a "DJ", the camera has become that trendy thing that everyone brags about spending money on for their Canon 7d's or Nikons. Though most of those people don't have extra lenses, accessories, lighting or better yet a studio all seem to call themselves "photographers". Growing up as a kid and even adulthood I like most people owned a camera but never took on the title "photographer". I sent my film out to be developed which meant I was just a picture taker, same with all these people who never shot film and have never personally developed film but have expensive cameras and call themselves photographers.

In DJing, those people that bought / buy records can claim the DJ title, an expensive camera, photoshop and a laptop doesn't make you a photographer. I've painted my house but I'm not a painter nor do I call myself a professional painter! Master your craft then give yourself a title!

I've owned this camera since I was about 10 and could still take better shots then most of these "picture takers" that became photographers in the last 5 years.

Saturday Excursion

Today was a perfect weather day to stroll the city streets of the Rittenhouse area and enjoy whats sure to be one of the last weekends that I'll have free before the fall time breeze sets in.

First up to bat was grabbing a nice lunch so we decided to sit outside at one of our favorite spots conversating and people watching. You can't go wrong with the seafood, shrimp, scallops, grilled crabmeat and salmon.

On the agenda was hitting up Ubiq to see if there was any fresh kicks that I had to have but of course there wasn't. While there I was happy to see that they had the Dr. J campaign going on for the release of his classic Converse sneakers, everything from giant pictures to jerseys and other goods was spread around the shop.

Last on the menu was grabbing some reading material for my upcoming travels, gotta have something to keep me occupied on those long 8hr European flights. Caught this music mag that had the crazy James Brown (RIP) feature in it, he's still the king!

Two years back we curated a gallery exhibition / party during the Tribeca Film Festival week in New York City for the premier of the film Black Dynamite. For this event we showcased pieces from my collection to keep it in theme with the film and how the "blaxploitation" genre influenced the movie.

Well we're curating our second exhibition next week in the Netherlands on a similar subject. This time we will be exhibiting several Hot Peas & Butta original works, as well as video and inspirations, they will be covering topics involving the ideas behind Hot Peas & Butta, the influences of cult/exploitation film, 60s/70s television, comics, and martial arts on bboy and hip-hop culture, and how the music is directly connected to those influences.

L.A. Burger Quest

Back in L.A. again this week and the first thing I had to do after getting off the plane was link up with my fam Ynot and get a burger from Umami. This was my first time eating there and I have to say, this was actually a great burger! The quality of beef, the bun, the homemade cheese and of course fries with homemade ketchup all hit the spot after a long flight.

Comic Art, Still A Great Investment

Fine art isn't always a stuffy piece hanging in a museum or in some rich farts study, sometimes it's as simple as a piece of childhood nostalgia that rakes in the big bucks. Recently John Romita's original Spiderman #49 cover art went on the auction block at Heritage Comics & Comic Art Auction and sold for a $167,300. I still say comics, art and other collectibles are a better investment than the stock market!

Freestyle Session

Seems like I just left L.A. (actually I did) but now it's off again on Friday to DJ at Freestyle Session. This years lineup is insane with DJ's like Nu-Mark, J-Rocc (Beat Junkies), Charlie Rock (Dojo Soundz) + DJ Premier vs. Pete Rock as an added bonus! That's all in addition to the already anticipated 3 vs 3 Bboy Battle for $20,000. The homie Cros1 really stepped it up this year by keeping it officially raw and understanding that the DJ is the backbone of these events, and without proper sound your jam really isn't offical.

Burger Questing in Cali.

This past weekend Supreme La Rock and myself went on a West Coast swing to San Francisco then L.A. to rock a few parties, while there you know I had to indulge in a tasty burger right? Well how about 3? To be honest with you, the only other meal that I had during my two days in S.F. was the BBQ ribs at Disco Volante.

First up was a tasty little burger from Bongo Burger in S.F. I don't know if it was the all day of diggin and I was extremely hungry or if it was just a good old fashion hamburger but it was good. Really good beef patti and fresh bun made this a winner!

Next up is a burger from The Big Dog in Concord, we spent the morning out diggin so I thought this would be a substitue for not finding any records on the morning dig. It was pretty much an average burger on my scale though.

Finally we have the Golden Gate burger from L.A. which was recommended by... (well lets just call him K) I don't want to put a friend on blast for taking me to get an average burger that was supposed to be on par with a Fathers Office burger. This was an ok burger pretty equal to what you would get from those a Bar/Lounge/ Restaurant that. Although it was a good quality of beef, it just wasn't seasoned properly. I'll give it another shot on my next trip just see if it was a flook but two shots and your out!
